Sherwood Forest Holiday Park (SFHP) engaged Techcon to design and deliver a flood alleviation solution to address recurring site flooding caused by the River Maun, which runs directly through the park.
SFHP approached the market seeking a practical and robust solution to mitigate the flooding risk. Techcon provided civil engineering and flood management expertise from project conception through to delivery, working closely with the Environment Agency throughout due to the sensitive nature of undertaking works adjacent to and within a major river, as well as the presence of protected wildlife habitats.
Techcon partnered with strategic subcontractor Aarsleff to install the sheet piled retaining walls, while our in-house civils teams delivered the temporary works foundations required to support the installation.
The scheme also included the installation of Legato block retaining walls with mass concrete backing, designed to stabilise the embankment and prevent further erosion caused by localised flooding events.
Following completion of the structural works, the area was regraded and finished with new pea gravel surfacing and fencing to improve both functionality and aesthetics. The completed project not only resolved the flooding issues but also significantly enhanced the appearance of the area, receiving positive feedback from both the client and regular visitors to the park.
